Rent-A-Box was founded in 1983 by Alan Hamilton in Yuba City, California. He perceived a local need for temporary storage for everything from agricultural products to business records, household goods to industrial products. He started with a few 20 ft. shipping containers, a used truck, and a self-designed trailer that improved on other delivery systems he’d seen. His past career in farming helped in designing a simple low-cost machine.
 
The business grew gradually until 1992 when he passed on full-time management to me, Reed Hamilton. I’ve tried to carry on my father’s legacy of honesty, friendly service, and innovation in expanding our offering of unit sizes and delivery capability.
 
As the population has grown, so has the business, but it still remains a sole proprietorship. I take your orders, answer your billing questions, supervise maintenance, and lend a sympathetic ear when difficulties arise. My driver Richard Murawski-Brown has been with me for years now and expertly delivers the containers, always with a friendly warmth.

My wife works as a nurse practitioner in Yuba City, and we have raised our two sons here in Grass Valley. We know the area intimately, and even though new people move in every day, we feel like it’s still our community.
